Janet Yu Welcome to my gallery! My paintings reflect my passion for expressive abstract. My art takes inspiration from music, nature, travel, and pets. With my art, I aim to translate our senses and emotions into visual expression. In my art process, I paint freely with minimal thoughts and intention. I always leave room for unexpected accidents! Painting allows me to express myself, as it makes me very happy and joyful. I mainly use acrylic on canvas and love to mix with other medias such as crayon, pencil, graphite, and oil pastels. I am open to exploring various materials, techniques and processes with curiosity as if a scientist or chef experimented with different methods and ingredients. Therefore, the canvas is my lab or kitchen to try unlimited possibilities. My love for art made me challenge myself to study art more in depth and got a 2nd BA degree with new media art at Academy of Art University in San Francisco in early 2000. Art has been my lifetime journey since my childhood. I realized my visual senses enjoy connecting with my other senses. For example, when I listen to music, I immediately try to think about how to translate the rhythm into lines or the mood into colors or textures on canvas. I was away from making art for so many years because I have been busy working for an IT business. However, a turning point came to me unexpectedly. When I quit my job, my desire to make art came back and I was naturally attracted to painting again. Over this transition period through the painting process, I have been gradually healing and a more powerful energy has been flowing inside me over the years. As art healed and made me grow, I hope my paintings can be a pleasant dialogue to you by healing and transferring joyful energy by touching your soul and heart! Thank you! Janet Yu
